Cybersecurity tips Pakistan

Cybercrime is growing rapidly in Pakistan, with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cybercrime Wing reporting significant increases in online fraud, identity theft and account hacking. Here are the most important steps to protect yourself.

Use Strong, Unique Passwords

Never reuse the same password across multiple accounts. Use a password manager to generate and store strong, unique passwords for every account. This single step prevents the majority of account hacking incidents.

Enable Two-Factor Authentication

Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) for all important accounts including email, banking and social media. Even if someone gets your password, they cannot access your account without the second factor.

Be Careful with WhatsApp and Phone Scams

Scammers frequently target Pakistanis through WhatsApp with fake job offers, prize notifications and urgent messages from people pretending to be bank officials. Never share OTPs or personal information with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.

Keep Software Updated

Keep your phone’s operating system and apps updated. Security updates fix known vulnerabilities that criminals exploit to access your device.

Use Secure Wi-Fi

Avoid using public Wi-Fi for banking or sensitive activities. If you must use public Wi-Fi, use a VPN to encrypt your connection.

Report Cybercrime

If you are a victim of cybercrime, report it to the FIA Cybercrime Wing at their website or helpline. Many victims do not report incidents, allowing criminals to continue operating.
