Pakistan is on the verge of a major telecommunications upgrade as the country prepares for its first commercial 5G services. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced plans for a 5G spectrum auction that will pave the way for next-generation mobile connectivity.
The Spectrum Auction
The PTA has announced plans to auction 5G spectrum in the 3.5GHz and 26GHz bands. Major telecom operators including Jazz, Zong, Telenor and Ufone are expected to participate.
When Will 5G Launch?
Initial 5G services are expected to launch in major cities including Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad in late 2025, with broader rollout planned for 2026.
What 5G Means for You
5G promises significantly faster download and upload speeds, lower latency for gaming and video calls, and better connectivity in crowded areas. It will also enable new applications in smart cities, healthcare and industry.
Device Compatibility
To use 5G, you will need a 5G-compatible smartphone. Many of the top phones available in Pakistan in 2025 already support 5G, so upgrading your device before 5G launches will prepare you for the transition.
